What you need

  • Two rolls of toilet paper
  • Music on a phone or speaker
  • A pumpkin bucket or box and rolled-up socks
  • Paper, tape, a marker and scissors (Dad's) for ghost cutouts

Before you start

  • Never over the face. Mummy wrap stops at the neck: no paper over the nose or mouth, and nothing tied around the neck.
  • Soft things only. Toss rolled socks or bean bags, never anything hard, and throw underhand.
  • Clear the floor. Move the coffee table and anything sharp before monster freeze.

Steps

  1. Mummy wrap. Wrap loosely, feet and legs free, never the face; mummy stands still. All paper off before swapping or the next game. 10 min.
  2. Monster freeze. Music on, dance like monsters. Music off, freeze in a scary pose. Five rounds, 10 min.
  3. Pumpkin toss. Five rolled socks each, underhand into the bucket. Step back after each round. 10 min.
  4. Ghost hunt. Tape ten paper ghosts around the room. Kids find and count them, then hide them for you. 10 min.
  5. Clean up as mummies. Gather the paper into a ball and save it or bin it, not the recycling. Ask which game won. 5 min.

If it stalls

  • If they fight over who wraps, give each one a body part: one arm, the other arm, the middle.
  • If monster freeze gets too wild, switch to slow-motion monsters.
